General Overview
The International Master of Disaster Management (M.DM.) at Tel Aviv University is a one-year, full-time master's program that prepares professionals for careers in emergency preparedness, disaster management, humanitarian action, and resilience.
As emergencies become increasingly complex—driven by climate change, armed conflicts, pandemics, technological failures, and humanitarian crises—the demand for professionals who can manage uncertainty and coordinate effective responses continues to grow. The M.DM. program equips students with the knowledge, practical tools, and strategic thinking needed to address these challenges.
The Department of Emergency and Disaster Management is part of the School of Public Health at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, providing students with an interdisciplinary academic environment and opportunities to learn alongside experts from a broad range of health and medical disciplines.
The multidisciplinary curriculum combines disaster management, public health, humanitarian action, emergency medicine, crisis communication, cyber preparedness, public policy, epidemiology, and research methods. Students learn from leading academics as well as experienced practitioners from government agencies, healthcare systems, emergency services, humanitarian organizations, and the private sector, ensuring a strong connection between theory and practice.
One of the program's greatest strengths is its diverse student body. Students come from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, including healthcare, public health, engineering, social sciences, humanitarian organizations, emergency services, government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector. This multidisciplinary learning environment encourages collaboration, broadens perspectives, and creates a professional network that extends well beyond graduation.
All students begin in the regular track. Students who wish to pursue research and meet the academic requirements may apply to transfer to the thesis track during their first year of study.
Graduates work in government agencies, municipalities, hospitals, emergency services, humanitarian organizations, NGOs, international organizations, public health, business continuity, academia, and research, contributing to preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience-building efforts around the world.
Located in Tel Aviv, Israel, the program offers students the opportunity to study in a country with extensive experience in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and resilience. By combining academic excellence, practical learning, field experience, and an international classroom, the M.DM. program prepares graduates for careers in one of today's most relevant and rapidly evolving professional fields.
