Dr. Regev Schweiger Joins the Faculty as a Senior Lecturer in Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry
Faculty Appointment Announcement
Dr. Regev Schweiger is joining the Department of Human Genetics and Computational Medicine at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, with a secondary affiliation at the Blavatnik School of Computer Science and AI at Tel Aviv University, as a Senior Lecturer. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Tel Aviv University and completed postdoctoral research in the Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge with Prof. Richard Durbin, supported by the EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship.
His research interests are in computational and population genetics, aiming to uncover the processes that shape genetic variation - from deep evolutionary history to molecular mechanisms. To this end, the Schweiger Lab develops theory and algorithms that merge classical population-genetic models with modern machine learning, and analyzes data from cutting-edge sequencing technologies. By integrating theory, algorithm development, and large-scale genomic data, the lab decodes genetic variation to reconstruct the biological and evolutionary processes that generate it, from molecular mechanisms of recombination to patterns of diversity across individuals and species, advancing our understanding of evolution, human history, and health.
