Prof. Gil Zalsman will be new head of Academic Center for Continuing Medical Education

Starting September 1, 2025, Prof. Gil Zalsman, MD, MHA, will serve as the new Head of the Academic Center for Continuing Medical Education at Tel Aviv University.

Prof. Zalsman is a Full Professor and former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, and currently heads the Child Psychiatry Section at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Tel Aviv University. From 2014 to 2024, he served as CEO and Medical Director of the Geha Mental Health Center, where he also directed the Child and Adolescent Day Unit.

He is also an Adjunct Research Scientist in the Division of Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology, Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University, New York. He has published over 220 scientific articles (most of them original research), reviews, book chapters, and edited volumes, and has participated in more than 270 scientific conferences.

Prof. Zalsman’s research focuses on the neurobiology of suicidal behavior and mood disorders, gene-environment interactions, child and adolescent suicidality, and suicide prevention. Recently, he received a significant donation to establish a research lab in memory of Gili Adar, murdered in the Nova party massacre. The new initiative is titled The Gili Adar Institute for Learning and Intervention in Adolescents’ Mental Health Crisis (G.I.L.I).

He holds an MD from the Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School, completed his psychiatry residency at Geha and Tel Aviv University, and his child psychiatry training at Yale University. He also holds a Master’s in Health Administration (MHA, summa cum laude) from Ben-Gurion University and is a Wexner Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Prof. Zalsman has held numerous leadership roles in international psychiatric organizations including ECNP, EPA, IASR, ISBP, and serves on the editorial boards of leading psychiatric journals such as JAACAP, JAACAP Open, and European Neuropsychopharmacology. He currently chairs the National Council for Suicide Prevention in Israel.
