Dr. Tomer Itkin
Short Bio

Tomer Itkin is a Senior Lecturer at Tel Aviv University and the Director of the Neufeld Heart Research Institute and the Tamman Cardiovascular Research Institute at Sheba Medical Center. He is also a Scholar at the Sagol Center for Regenerative Medicine.

He received his B.Sc. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Immunology and Stem Cell Biology from the Weizmann Institute of Science. He then completed postdoctoral training and held a faculty appointment as Instructor in the Division of Regenerative Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, where his research focused on cardiovascular regeneration.

At the heart of Tomer’s scientific vision is the quest to decode and harness the fundamental programs that drive regeneration, disease resistance, and longevity.

His laboratory brings together insights from cardiovascular, immune, and cancer biology, along with cutting-edge molecular and computational technologies, to engineer next-generation regenerative and preventative therapeutics. The team tackles challenges across pathological and aging-related diseases, designing strategies to reprogram dysfunctional and damaged tissues into healthy, functional ones.

Driven by the belief that future medicine will not only heal but also preserve wellness and resilience, Tomer’s multidisciplinary research aspires to rewrite the body’s response to injury and aging.

By bridging biology, medicine, bioinformatics, and tissue engineering, his work is paving the way for transformative therapeutic innovations that promise to extend healthspan and redefine what is possible in cardiovascular and regenerative medicine.
