Short Bio

Ronen Zaidel-Bar, PhD, is a Full Professor in the Gray School of Medical Sciences, where he leads a mechanobiology laboratory investigating how cytoskeletal networks drive tissue form and function.

He earned his BSc from the Open University and completed his PhD in Molecular Cell Biology at the Weizmann Institute under Prof. Benjamin Geiger, studying force-dependent adhesion dynamics.

As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison with Prof. Jeff Hardin, he pioneered live‐imaging approaches in C. elegans epidermal morphogenesis. From 2010 to 2017, Dr. ZaidelBar was an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore and Principal Investigator at the Mechanobiology Institute.

His team has defined the molecular assembly and mechanosensory function of integrin and cadherin-based adhesions, mapped adhesion protein interaction networks, and elucidated how the actin, myosin, and microtubule cytoskeletons regulate cell and tissue morphogenesis during animal development.

A recipient of competitive grants from NRF, ISF, BSF, and NSF‐BSF, he has mentored over 20 graduate students and postdocs and serves on international review panels for major funding agencies.
