Prof. (Emeritus) Nathan Dascal
Prof. Nathan Dascal is Professor Emeritus of Physiology at the Gray School of Medical Sciences, Tel Aviv University.
He received his BSc from St. Petersburg University, Russia (1974), and his PhD from Tel Aviv University (1983), followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, CA.
He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and has served as President of the Israel Society of Physiology and Pharmacology, as well as Head of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Gray School of Medicine.
Throughout his career, his research has focused on the molecular cloning and characterization of G protein–activated potassium (GIRK) channels and voltage-gated calcium (CaV) channels, their regulation by G proteins, channel subunits, auxiliary proteins, and phosphorylation, and their relevance to human disease. In recent years, his work has centered on disease mechanisms caused by mutations in ion channels and G proteins, particularly the Gβ1 subunit encoded by the GNB1 gene.
