Prof. Michael Milyavsky
Short Bio

Dr. Michael Milyavsky is a senior lecturer at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, where he serves as Chair of the Department of Pathology and Head of the Leukemia and Stem Cells Research Laboratory.

He began his academic journey with a B.Sc. in Biology from Bar-Ilan University, followed by an M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he studied the mechanisms underlying malignant transformation in human cells. In 2005, Dr. Milyavsky conducted postdoctoral research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, focusing on the DNA damage responses of human hematopoietic and leukemia stem cells. He joined Tel Aviv University in 2012.

Since the start of his career, Dr. Milyavsky has been dedicated to uncovering mechanisms that protect against cancer. His early work led to the development of a stepwise in vitro model of human malignant transformation. Currently, his research centers on identifying genes that regulate leukemia cell responses to chemotherapy, with the goal of preventing treatment resistance. His long-term vision is to translate these findings into clinical applications through stem cell-based diagnostics and personalized medicine.

Dr. Milyavsky has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals. His work has been supported by competitive grants from ISF, ICRF, ICA), and Boaz and Varda Dotan Center for Hematological Malignancies.
