Prof. (Emeritus) Ilana Lotan
Ilana Lotan is Professor of Neurobiology (Emerita) at Gray School of Medicine of Tel Aviv University. She received her BSc from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and her Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Columbia University. She has authored over 71 publications.
Her long-standing expertise in ion channel signal transduction mechanisms and in biophysics, biochemistry and cell biology of K+ channels, and mechanisms of transmitter release. She made seminal contributions to the understanding of biosynthesis, cellular fate and regulation and function of several ion channels, in particular K+ channels; developed novel methodologies for manipulation of heterologous gene expression, imaging of plasma membrane proteins and quantitative biochemical analysis of proteins in heterologous cellular models. In the last years, Prof. Lotan has been involved in the studies of molecular mechanisms of transmitter release, focusing on the role of phosphorylation and G protein regulation of key synaptic proteins.
