Prof. Ariel Munitz
Short Bio

Prof. Ariel Munitz is a full professor at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University, and the Roberts-Guthman Chair in Immunopharmacology. He received a PhD in Pharmacology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and conducted a postdoctoral training in the field of Allergy and Immunology at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In 2009, he joined Tel Aviv University. 

Prof. Munitz has established a broad and internationally recognized research program aimed at understanding the roles of eosinophils in acute and chronic mucosal inflammation. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts in prestigious journals in the field of allergy, immunology, and cancer (Nature Immunology, Science Immunology, Nature Reviews in Cancer, Cancer Cell, Immunity, Cancer Research, Allergy). Specifically, his laboratory is interested in understating the molecular mechanisms underlying the recruitment and activation of eosinophils into the lungs and gastrointestinal tract and how to translate these pathways into novel therapeutics. 

Prof. Munitz received numerous awards including the prestigious Alon Fellowship, the Teva Research Grant Award, the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology Sepracor Research Excellence Award and the Eva & George Klein Award given by the Israel Science Foundation. In collaboration with the Meir Hospital, Prof. Munitz’s laboratory received (twice) recognition as a Center of Excellence by the World Allergy Organization. Prof. Munitz serves as a consultant and an international advisory board member to several Israeli biotech and large pharma companies such as GSK, AstraZeneca and Sanofi. His research is supported by the US-Israel Bi-national Science Foundation, the Israel Science Foundation, The Israel Cancer Research Foundation, The Israel Cancer Association, The Israel Ministry of Health, and the Tel Aviv University Cancer Biology Research Center.
